Hello Everyone!
Welcome back to my blog- Today I am making this special Anime blog for one of my most loved Anime – Naruto! Today also marks as Naruto’s birthday so a special blog for a special anime in my heart! The Nostalgia still remains when I saw Naruto for the first time when it was aired in Cartoon Network (CN) India in 2008! I was hooked instantly watching the episodes at 1pm in afternoons just before classes at 2pm! Ohh and about 20 episodes in, it gets banned in India for its Mature Content (blood during fight scenes)- Wow really great work there CN India!
Fast-forward, Now in 2012 doing my graduation meets a friend – let’s name him SI. We bonded quick and you won’t believe it was Naruto that got us going and then the links to where to watch it again! I remember watching again at least 10 episodes that day after returning back from college in the evening! Then never missed an episode till it came to an end on March 23, 2017. Yeah, I love Anime and Anime is “Not Cartoon!”. Unfortunately, many don’t seem to get the difference, here’s the definition in the simplest way possible-
Cartoon- Originating from the US, is mainly associated with humour or satire and used for comical relief/ make people laugh.
Anime- Originated from Japan and is mainly associated with real-life issues and closely tied with human emotions.
Naruto Plot-
In the first episode, we are greeted with events that occurred 12 years before the start of the series, in which the Nine-Tailed Fox annihilating much of Konoha village and taking many lives. The Fourth Hokage – leader of the village sacrificed his life to seal the Nine-Tails into a newborn (his son), you guessed it- Naruto Uzumaki. Orphaned by the attack, Naruto was always avoided by the villagers, who out of dread and outrage, saw him as the Nine-Tails itself. The children watching their parents also inherited the same hatred towards Naruto. In his quest to be acknowledged, Naruto vowed he would one day become the greatest Hokage the village had ever witnessed.
So now that you know the plot, let’s get into the amazing points on why you should start watching Naruto!
- Characters and their development.
Yes, this show has multiple characters with different traits, most of them to which you can also easily relate to. The best part, each character has their own story and overall progress is there to see as the story develops.
2. Messages/ Life lessons.
This show gives us some real-life goals to keep, the importance of friendship, Hard work always pays off and can beat natural talent, Never to give up on your goals!
3. Having their own History, rules.
Yeah though based on earth this show divides into 5 main countries from which Ninjas exist, having their Ninja wars (like world wars), Myths, believes and the Gods!
4. Humor.
Ninjas and Humor you say, why not? End of the day they too are humans! This show provides you with some good quality humor as well sometimes in the most surprising moments! (Ahmm .. MCU)
5. Relatable Antagonist (Villain’s)
Naruto provides us with multiple villains and mind you, not even one of them have similar traits. We are also giving a backstory on how they got into the path of destruction. Certainly having the best Antagonist list in all Anime. Period.
6. The Mystery
Yes, this show has some great mystery like about Why did Itachi kill his clan? Is he really an antagonist? The Fourth Hokage, why is he so highly rate? Who is the Masked Man? Go get the answers you have the watch the show! No spoilers here 😛
7. Ninjas
Yes, this not like any ordinary Ninja show (ahem Ninja Hatori? Joke). Not all ninjas wear black and not are like some sneaky movers and killers – Just normal human being with extra practice and expertise in Martial Arts. Hey, they too have an academy- “Ninja Academy” which u need to pass to earn yourself the title of a Ninja. Their examinations are conducted to progress through the ranks! {Genin – Chunin – Jonin – Kage}
8. Fighting Techniques (Jutsu)
There are mainly three fighting techniques – Taijutsu (combat skills purely based on Martial Arts), Ninjutsu (Martial Arts using stealth and camouflage with chakra) and Genjutsu (Uses Illusionary Techniques with chakra). Each technique having 5 elements – Wind, Water, Earth, Fire and Lightning. Each person usually having one only but then what’s the fun in that so we have people with rare bloodlines who have multiple elemental controls!
9. Fights
Well if a Ninja show does not have great fights no way can it succeed! Well, Naruto does not disappoint. Having more than 10 great fight scenes in there! Read it again- More than 10 GREAT fight scenes! We can certainly have another top 10 for this! 😀
10. Rivalry
Well, this show would be incomplete without mentioning this- Be it between friends or between siblings.
Adding a bonus – because why not!
11. Music
Last but not the least great music, be it for the opening, closing of the show or during the fights, some of the most lit music can be found in this series covering all the emotions be it sad, happy, energetic and so on.
Covering the next point: How to watch Naruto??
Naruto
Genre- Adventure, Fantasy, Martial Arts
Manga Written by- Masashi Kishimoto
Magazine- Shonen Jump
So how many episodes you ask?
Well, 720 overall. 220 in Naruto and 500 in Naruto: Shippuden. Having total viewing of 240 hours approximately.
Do you need to watch all the episodes?
No. There are about 40% filler episodes that you can skip. Making it about 432 episodes to watch! Making it only 144 hours of viewing time (about 100 hrs. saved).
Now what are filler episodes?
Well, they are mostly backstories or flashback type of episodes not related to the manga (main story/ comics). They are made so that the animation does not overtake the manga.
Are fillers not worth to watch?
Yes and No, well you can watch them if you really like them but it does not have an effect on the storytelling. Though some of them are really good and worth a watch. The list of fillers episodes is attached below. Though I would recommend watching some of the filler before ignoring them completely as some may have more humor and has backstories of characters that you may have fallen in love with!
How about the animations?
Well to start with not bad at all considering it was started in October 2002. 18 years ago and yes though they might be a bit slow the music and fight scenes make up for them. You will certainly see the improvement in animation over the period of time moving from Naruto to Naruto Shippuden!
Watching Naruto without fillers!

Well is the Anime perfect?
No! But that’s what makes it even more special! It covers a vast majority of human lessons on- needs, love, sacrifice, hard work, friendship, humour, motivation, thoughts, greed, hate, justice, etc. Well, it sure is a Journey not to be missed!
Where to stream?
Well, Naruto is now available on Netflix! For the Shippuden part, one would have to stream from online sites. Streaming can be viewed in English – Subbed and Dubbed versions. I prefer the subbed ones as it has more character attachment and effects, you might even learn a bit of Japanese by the end! or the English dubbed ones which are good quality dubbings.
Ending with some wonderful quotes in the series-
Hopefully, you do watch and enjoy the show as much I loved it. Do comment below if you have already watched the show? If yes, What were your reactions and if not yet, what are you waiting for, jump right in it!
Note- All the images of Naruto, Naruto Shippuden are copyrights of Shonen Jump. I have used them only for blog purpose, hoping to reach a greater audience.
