Chapter 5- RCB vs MI| Clash of Heart vs Brain

Spread the love

Hello All,

Welcome to Match 10 of IPL 2020 – RCB vs MI, this will be the 3rd Match for both Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Both teams have won one and lost one of their matches. Being a Mumbaikar I support RCB well now the debate between the heart and the brain continues. RCB would be looking to improve their performance after a humiliating defeat against Punjab while Mumbai would love to continue their form and the dominance over RCB in recent years. Meanwhile, it’s toss time here in Dubai. MI winning the toss and choosing to field first.

We see that MI have made one change to their squad by bringing in Ishan Kishan in place of Saurabh Tiwari and RCB making three changes bringing in Adam Zampa, Isuru Udana and Gurkeerat Singh Mann in place of Josh Philippe, Dale Steyn and Umesh Yadav.

Its Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch to open the innings for RCB and Boult to bowl. First ball, it flies in the air and just wide off the fielder, two runs taken. The next ball is trashed to the boundary by dev. Ends the over with two singles and it’s 8/0 after 1. Pattinson to partner boult, Finch takes a double off the first, the next ball is hit in the painful area down under! Finch seems to be out of shape here, good bowling from Pattinson edges the fifth ball and it flies over first slip for a boundary another double to finish the over. It’s 16/0 after 2.

Boult continues, Dev takes a single, the next ball Finch pulls the short ball, in the air and Rohit drops it. It was flying, Rohit got both his hands but could not hold on to it. The next ball is dispatched for a maximum over long off. A 2 and a single off the next two ball. 10 runs from it and its 26/0 after 3. Pattinson to continue, Finch again gets a double. The next ball, pulls it away in front of off for another boundary. Pattinson bowls two dots, Finch then tries to hit one out, just manages to clear the infield and they run 3. A dot to finish the over and it’s 35/0 after 4.

Rahul Chahar is brought into the attack, after two singles, Finch pulls one away over square leg for a boundary. The next ball Finch just plays a lap shot for a boundary. The next ball, Finch makes room and hits it on the off side to make it a hattrick of boundaries! A dot to finish and RCB are 49/0 after 5. Bumrah is brought into the attack, starts on the money. The second ball down the leg for 4 byes poor ball that. The 3rd one is pulled by Dev, one bounce and 4. Takes a single the next smart cricket this from Dev. Finch on strike and Bumrah bowls a wide and then finishes with two dots.

So at the end of powerplay RCB race to 59/0. Good strong foundation laid by the openers. Finch back to his best and Dev also has looked solid out there. MI have taken the strategic time out. Time to rethink their strategies.

Krunal Pandya is brought into the attack. Dev takes a single off the first. Finch plays two dots and then plays one over the covers for a boundary! almost going the distance. What a shot! Takes a single off the next and a dot to finish. It’s 65/0 after 7. Chahar is back in, singles are taken on the first two balls, Finch on the third sweeps on the leg side for a boundary and gets his first 50 for RCB! A dot, 1, wide,1 to end the over. 9 runs from it. It’s 74/0 after 8 overs. RCB are on the move and MI is desperate need to break the partnership.

Boult has been brought back into the attack. Singles off the first two balls, a dot and the Dev plays a delicate flick down the leg side for a boundary, take a single off the next. The last ball, Finch tries to go big over covers but is completely deceived by the slower ball and hands a simple catch to Pollard placed at Long off. Finally, the partnership has been broken, Finch departs for 52 and RCB are 81/1 after 9. Kohli walks into bat, Krunal to bowl, he bowls an excellent over just conceding 4 runs from it. 85/1 after 10.

Chahar to continue just gives away 3 singles from the over and troubled Kohli a lot with the spin. We see a cautious Kohli here. Bumrah back in Rohit going all-in with an intention to get the wicket. Bumrah bowls another excellent over just 3 from it as well. Pressure mounting on RCB now to maintain the run rate.

Chahar is back in, Dev takes a single and then the gets the reward for his troubles- Kohli is gone! Massive wicket this. Chahar was troubling Kohli the entire night, loopy delivery and hits it straight to Rohit at the covers. Kohli’s troubles against leg spinners were perfectly exploited by MI. His sorry stay has come to an end. AB walks in. Just 5 from it and it’s 96/2 after 13. Excellent comeback this from MI. Pattinson to continue, two singles to start with. Dev decides to break the shackles and hits Pattinson straight over long-off for a maximum! The next ball, same result – This time straight over the bowlers head for a maximum! Dev you beauty! 14 from it.

Krunal continues, Ab takes a double, the next ball pulls him over long-off for a boundary. Takes a single, Dev now joins the party hitting it over the covers for a boundary. Two singles to finish off the over and RCB gain back the lost momentum. 13 from it and it’s 123/2 after 15. Pollard is brought into the attack, Ab takes a single, Dev greets him with a boundary- a beautiful cut shot and reaches his 50! His second in 3 games. Takes a single off the next and then it’s AB’s turn to join the party, Pollard bowls down the leg and it’s tucked away for a boundary. Pulls the next, Calls for 2 and gets 2 comfortably and finishes the over with a single.

RCB have taken the Strategic timeout now. RCB would like the maintain the momentum they have got back scoring 40 off the last 3 overs. MI would be looking for wickets, especially of AB. It’s 136/2 after 16 and seems like AB vs Bumrah to begin with after the break.

Bumrah to AB, full and wide in AB’s arc and he lofts it over covers for a boundary. Next ball bowls a bouncer and AB tries the upper cut but misses. Another slower shot ball this time AB waits for it and dispatches it for a maximum. Singles of the next two balls. Last ball, Bumrah tries for the Yorker, misses it and the ball lands in the stadium for a maximum – hit straight back over the bowlers head! 18 runs from the Bumrah over. It’s 154/2 after 17. Bout is back and he gets Dev off the first ball. Short slower ball, pulls well but cannot clear the big man- Pollard in the deep.

Dube in, just 4 singles from the over and the last ball is hit for a maximum! Again a short ball, AB waiting on his back foot smokes it into stands at long leg. Bumrah is back, Dube takes the single and gives the strike to AB, Bumrah again misses his yorker and AB just hits it straight back down the ground for a boundary. Takes a single off the next. Dube places the short ball over the short third man for a boundary. What are you doing Bumrah! Takes a single the next.

Final ball and that is again in the arc of AB and it reaches the orbit! What a shot from AB! He also reaches his 50! from just 22 balls! Another Bumrah over going for 17 runs! RCB reach 181/3 after 19. Bumrah had an off night with figures reading a disappointing 0/42. Pattinson to bowl the final over. Dube swings and misses the first ball, the second one is dispatched for a maximum over covers, the third ball meets with the same fate but this time over mid-wicket. After 2 singles, Pattinson bowls one in the slot and Dube happily hits it back over his head for another maximum!

RCB vs MI- ABD in full flow. 50 of just 22 balls. Credits: iplt20.com

Utter carnage in the end by RCB! MI bowlers had no clue what so ever. After a good middle spell, RCB hit 105 runs off the last 7 overs and 78 runs in the last 5. With 20 runs coming off the last over and ending with 201 onboard. RCB would be hoping to defend this target, they have added Zampa and Udana in their arsenal. MI would be looking for a great start to get things started. A good batting track this -Can RCB hold off or MI crumble under pressure lets find out.

RCB vs MI – Innings Break, A tough task for MI. Credits: iplt20.com

Rohit and de Kock to open the innings for MI. Udana will open the attack for RCB. Rohit starts off with a single, a wide the next ball, single again and then Rohit just places it and it goes for a maximum down the leg. Shot! A dot and a single later de Kock smokes it through the covers for a boundary. Expensive start to Udana’s IPL career -14 runs from it. Sundar to bowl from the other end. Starts with 3 dots and Rohit tries to break the shackles but perishes. Hits it straight to the fielder at deep mid-wicket an easy catch there. Suryakumar walks in, just a double of the last ball. It’s 16/1 after 2.

Udana to continue, starts off with a dot, the next ball it’s 2 down for MI. The extra bounce does it for Surya, edges it to the keeper and AB takes it after a juggle! Ishan Kishan walks in and starts off with a boundary by a shot over the point fielder. Ends the oevr with 1, 0, 2. It’s 23/2 after 3. Sundar is back and he bowls an excellent over, just 1 run coming from it! Talk about talent there, a spinner bowling in powerplay going just for a single. The future certainly looks good for Indian Cricket.

Saini is the first change, starts off with a dot then Kishan pulls it for a maximum! Saini follows up with 3 dots and a quick single off the last ball. Good recovery after being hit for a maximum. 7 from it. MI are 31/2 after 5. Sundar to continue and just gives away 4 singles in the over. Good bowling this from RCB keeping up the pressure. So at the end of power play MI reach 35/2. MI need something special to get on the move as they are chasing a huge target and their run rate is below 6.

Chahal into the attack starts off with two singles and a double off the first 3 balls. With the pressure mounting, de Kock tries the slog sweep, mistimes it and hits it straight to the fielder at deep mid-wicket handing Negi his second catch. Hardik Pandya walks in, takes 2 singles to end the over. It’s 41/3 after 7. Now, Zampa is brought into the attack. Will be a good contest this between Hardik vs Zampa. Starts good with 4 singles and then bowls a full-toss to Hardik and he accepts it with gleefully and deposits it over cow corner for a maximum, a single off the last ball to finish. 11 runs from that over and it’s 52/3 after 8.

Chahal continues and gives just 6 singles, excellent stuff from Yuzi! It’s 58/3 after 9 and time for strategic timeout. MI would like to up the ante now while RCB would be looking for further inroads to the MI batting lineup. Sundar to resume after the break and bowls another tidy over giving away just 5 runs and ends his spell reading 1/12! MI are 63/3 after 10.

Saini is back into the attack and Kishan greets him with a maximum- hit straight back over the bowlers head! Follows up with a dot and then another maximum, this time a length ball, in the arc for Kishan and he puts it over cow corner for a maximum! Follows up with a wide down the leg and finishes with dot, single, dot. 14 runs from that over. Zampa is back into the attack, Kishan takes a single and then Zampa get the better of Hardik this time, Hardik muscles it but it goes more aerial than the distance and straight in the hands of Negi again -taking his third catch off the night.

At the end of 12th MI are 83/4. Needing 119 to win from 48 balls. Pollard joins Kishan in the middle. Udana comes back in and bowls an excellent over giving away just 6 runs from it. Zampa to bowl his third bowls a good over until the last ball where he gets hit for a maximum by Ishan Kishan and that also brings up his 50! 9 from the over and MI are 98/4 after 14. MI has taken the strategic time out. MI need 104 from 36. Would be tough but possible if Pollard stays and changes his gears and Kishan batting in some form as well. RCB meanwhile would go for the kill by taking wickets.

RCB vs MI- Ishan Kishan gets his 50! Credits: iplt20.com

Chahal to resume, 3 runs off the first 3 ball, Kishan swings one and gets a maximum takes a single off the next and the last ball Pollard hits it in the air, just falls short of Dev who goes for the catch, could not reach it and the ball goes into the fence. So MI starting to change gears now, 14 from it. Saini back and greeted by a perfectly placed boundary by Kishan, some form he is in tonight. Rest of the overs concludes with singles and two’s. Just 10 from the over after starting with a boundary and asking rate of 18 good over for RCB. MI at the end of 16 are 122/4. 80 needed of the last 4 overs- Await a thriller!

Zampa in the bowl his final, Pollard just muscles this one straight back for a boundary a start the MI needed. The next ball Pollard goes big but ends up hitting the toe-end of the bat, Negi settles underneath it and drops it!!! Ohh my – He has been all around taking catches and he missed this one. How costly would this prove and add insult to injury the ball goes over the rope for a maximum! The next ball is clobbered for a 6! No respite for Zampa. Takes 2 off the next and then another 6 this time over long-on. Zampa seems out of ideas. The last ball, in the air and Chahal this time makes a mess of it!

What are you doing RCB! 3 runs taken. 27 coming from that over, just what was needed for MI and what RCB did not want. Poor fielding have let RCB down in the past, is it going to happen tonight as well. Chahal to resume can he get his mistakes rectified by taking the wicket of Pollard. First ball and it goes over long-off for another maximum! Followed by a 2 and a single then Kishan joins the party by hitting a maximum by a slog sweep over deep mid-wicket! Takes a single and the last ball is dispatched for another maximum by Pollard! Total Carnage here at Dubai. 22 runs from it.

RCB vs MI- Absolute Carnage from Pollard to get his 50! Credits- iplt20.com

So, MI are certainly back in the game and this partnership might take MI home tonight. 49 runs from the last two overs from the leg spinners has turned the match on it’s head. 31 needed from 12 ball is the equation now.

Saini to bowl the 19th starts off with a wide! Pressure time… Just gives 4 singles off the next 4 balls. The 5th ball hit in the air, Virat tries to settle under it, but it just manages to get over his head- Another maximum. Ishan Kishan you beauty! Also the 100-run partnership between the pair off just 43 balls. Everything Crazy happening here! A single off the last ball. 12 from the over and MI reach 183/4 after 19. Saini finishes with 0/43.

RCB vs MI- A 100 run partnership between the pair! Credits- iplt20.com

Udana handed the responsibility to defend 19 off the final over. Starts well giving just 2 singles from the first 2 ball. Kishan muscles one to straight to Gurkeerat at long-on – Would you believe it he too drops it! What are you doing RCB fielders! MI would not mind that one bit and that too goes for a maximum! Poor field at it’s best display by RCB! 11 needed from 3. The next ball also disappears to the empty stands for a maximum! Ishan Kishan the man! Virat is distraught while Rohit jumps in Joy! Kishan on 99! A slower one in the slot but straight in the hands of Dev who finally catches one!

What an entertaining innings this from the young man all team play here, tried to finish the game but alas not to be. Great innings this. Pollard on strike 5 needed for a win 4 to tie, Udana bowls a short one and Pollard just muscles it for a boundary over deep mid-wicket. You just don’t bowl short to Pollard – He will punish you. So after 20 overs, the scores are tied! What a match this. RCB after all the hard work in the first 16 overs just lost it in the final 4. The dropping of 3 catches also did not help their cause. But the game is not over yet. It ends in a tie. Time for another super over!

RCB vs MI- It’s a TIE! Credits- iplt20.com

So another super over in the same venue. MI would be batting first. The pair of Hardik and Pollard to open – Surprised that they have not gone with the in form Ishan Kishan. Saini to bowl for RCB.

Ball 1- Saini to Pollard and Saini executes his yorker right on target, just a single. {1/0}

Ball 2- Saini to Pandya- Low full toss and Pandya mistimes it another single. {2/0}

Ball 3- Saini to Pollard – A dot ball! Full and wide outside off. Pollard swings and misses it. {2/0}

Ball 4- Saini to Pollard- Tries for the yorker again, misses it and Pollard hits it straight back for a boundary. {6/0}

Ball 5- Saini to Pollard – OUT! Gets his man! Hits it flat and straight to the man at the deep. Gurkeerat does not drop it. {6/1}

Ball 6- Saini to Pandya – Just a bye conceded. Bowls it full and wide, Pandya misses it and then scamper through for a single. {7/1}

Excellent stuff here from the young Indian there. He kept Pollard and Hardik at bay. So then RCB needs 8 runs to win.

RCB vs MI- Hoping RCB can pull this off! Credits- iplt20.com

AB and Kohli to bat, Bumrah to bowl the super over.

Bumrah to AB- 1 run to long off, Need 7 to win.

Bumrah to Kohli- Short ball, Kohli pull but just a single. 6 needed for a win.

Bumrah to AB- Bowls a short ball, a loud shout for caught behind and the umpire raises his finger! AB reviews it straight away. More drama! Ultra edge shows no nick. Not Out is the verdict. 6 needed from 3.

Bumrah to AB- 4! Poor bowling this from Bumrah, bowls another short ball with 3rd man inside the circle. AB pulls, gets a thick outside edge and it goes for a boundary. Just 2 needed from 2.

Bumrah to AB- Excellent yorker from Bumrah, right into the toes. AB squeeze’s it and the run a single. Scores are level. {7/0}. Will the game end now or will we need another super over?? The final ball coming up next…

Bumrah to Kohli- And it’s a Boundary! Kohli flicks it through the leg side and RCB have done it. They win the match virtue of the Super over.

Ohh what a game this. RCB and their fans would be happy with the victory! Should have come in the regular game but alas not to be they had to win in the super over. Pollard and Ishan Kishan took MI to an almost impossible win with almost 20 runs needed per over to win the game. Kishan played a brilliant knock under pressure and would be disappointed to miss out on a hundred and taking his team home. Pollard has done this at least a 100 times this now a veteran of the game! They took the challenge to the RCB bowlers. RCB’s death bowling continues to be an issue yet to be addressed.
